Thomas Weinhappel

Thomas Weinhappel began his career as a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir before graduating from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2017, his portrayal of Hamlet earned him the Thalia Award for Best Opera Singer and the Libuška Award for exceptional role interpretation. His repertoire spans lyric and dramatic baritone roles, particularly in the works of Wagner and Strauss. Recent highlights include the title role in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman in Prague, Telramund at the Sofia Opera’s Wagner Festival, and Scarpia at Bühne Baden. He has also appeared in operetta, notably as Count Danilo in Lehár’s The Merry Widow at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
