Iurie Ciobanu studied in Romania and Luxembourg, where he began his career as a freelance opera and concert singer. In 2006, he won first prize in the operetta category of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition. He is a former member of the soloist ensemble of the Linz State Theatre, and has performed with the Vienna State Opera, Berlin Philharmonic, and at the Brucknerhaus Linz. His operatic repertoire ranges from Mozart (Don Giovanni, Magic Flute), Rossini (La Cenerentola, William Tell), to Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, Verdi, Strauss, Wagner, and in operetta he has performed Tassilo (Countess Maritza), Sou Chong (Land of Smiles), and Barinkay (Gypsy Baron).
