Andreas Spörri

Last Updated 2018: Andreas Spörri studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, and the City of Basel Music Academy, and won first prize in conducting in the Forum of Young Artists’ Prize, Vienna in 1989. He has served as artistic director and conductor of the New Year’s Concert and the Vienna Summer Night Gala, both part of the Lucerne Festival, since 2003, and has been conductor of the Vienna Opera Ball and the Opening Ceremony at the Vienna State Opera since 2010. Maestro Spörri has worked with the orchestras of the state theatres of Kassel and Halle, Germany, the Basel Sinfonietta, the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the symphony orchestras of Munich and Cairo.
